Hervey Bay is certainly one of Queensland’s most iconic seaside towns. The world-renowned whale-watching industry works in tandem with the commercial fishing industry, the backbone of this thriving community.
Enticing over 10,000 people to the Urangan Boat Harbour every year, the Harvey Bay Seafood Festival is a premier event, educating locals and visitors about ocean life, and serving up delicious seafood for all to enjoy.
This is your opportunity to celebrate some of Queensland’s greatest edible treasures, shop around local markets and enjoy some homegrown live entertainment. Or just sit by the water and enjoy a lazy Sunday picnic of freshly caught local seafood.
One of my Government’s Toward Q2 ambitions is to protect our lifestyle and environment. That’s why we support events like the Hervey Bay Seafood Festival through the Queensland Events Regional Development Program.
This program has provided more than $15.3 million to 705 regional events since it started as a world-first initiative in 2001.
These events create jobs, attract tourists, fuel growth and prosperity and give a tremendous sense of pride for the local host communities.
Across the State, thousands of individuals, community groups, local councils and in some cases entire towns, put countless hours into ensuring their events are a success.
Enjoy the Hervey Bay Seafood Festival, and I hope you will have an opportunity to discover more of Queensland’s great events in the coming year.

PREMIER OF QUEENSLAND
The Fraser Lions Hervey Bay Seafood Festival is now a premier event in our region and the Fraser Coast Regional Council is acknowledging the festival’s success with a three-year sponsorship package.
The $15,000 of funding spread over three years and $5000 of in-kind support will enable the group to target revenue raising initiatives that will contribute to the event’s sustainability and growth.
Now in its 12th year, the Fraser Lions Hervey Bay Seafood Festival provides an economic boost to our community, not only during the festival weekend with thousands flocking to the event, but also throughout the year with increased interest in the fishing industry and the culinary versatility of seafood.
This festival is an excellent example of how an industry can use its initiative to market itself well.
The seafood industry is a significant earner and employer for the Fraser Coast and this support funding from the Fraser Coast Regional Council is a worthwhile investment in our region.
The Council congratulates the Hervey Bay Seafood Festival Association on its successes and wishes the event well for the future.

Fraser Coast Mayor
